One of Cayuga County's youngest wineries has new owners.
Doyle Vineyard Management purchased Quarry Ridge Winery in Springport for $1,759,873 on July 1, according to Cayuga County property records. The winery's full market value is $624,900.
The Cuthbert family, of Auburn medical software company Medent, opened the winery in 2018. Andrew Cuthbert will stay there as winemaker.聽
The ownership will remain local as well, as Matt and Carre Doyle are natives of Hammondsport and have been working in the Finger Lakes wine industry for almost two decades.
They started Doyle Vineyard Management after Constellation Brands, which employed Matt as its East Coast vineyard manager, decided to get out of the agricultural side of the business in 2010.

Instead of moving out west for a similar job, he and Carre decided to start their own business.
Since then, they've gone on to manage more than 900 acres, including their own, and partner with more than 70 wineries and landowners.聽
Those partners have included Quarry Ridge since its opening 鈥 but buying a winery is a new step for the Doyles, and Quarry Ridge will be the first it owns completely.

Taking a leap
Carre said she and Matt have always entertained the idea of winemaking, but admitted that now is not the most opportune time to start.
鈥淭he wine market is terrible now," she told 狐狸视频色版. "We looked at this as an opportunity, and hopefully we鈥檒l be successful with it.鈥
The industry has been slumping in recent years as people shift toward other alcoholic beverages, like seltzers and canned cocktails, as well as nonalcoholic ones.聽
Because sales are down, Carre said, wineries are slowing down production and winding up with an excess amount of juice, leaving growers in the lurch.
But the Doyles remain optimistic as they get accustomed to running Quarry Ridge.
Its wines will continue to be made from their grapes, such as chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet and riesling, many of which are grown on the Springport property.聽聽
The new owners' plans also include new hours and adding more beverages to the tasting room. That will be overseen by new director Alisha Bastian, one of six recent hires.聽
She will also oversee events like the music and food trucks Carre hopes to begin booking next spring.
While it's an hour-plus commute, the Doyles believe the winery is worth the commitment. Carre hopes their four children, who are in their teens to early 20s, also show an interest in the business.
"We鈥檙e trying to build a legacy,鈥 she said.
