A truck driver died in a crash on the New York State Thruway in Cayuga County.
The two-vehicle crash occurred Thursday afternoon. New York State Police said troopers responded at 4:57 p.m. after a report of a crash on Interstate 90 eastbound in the town of Brutus.
An investigation found a tractor-trailer traveling westbound went through the median and guiderail before entering the eastbound lane. The vehicle struck an eastbound Honda. After the collision, troopers said the Honda rolled several times.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was Mark Shidler, 50, of Applecreek, Ohio. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
John S. Roosa, 24, of Syracuse, was the driver of the Honda. He was transported by helicopter to SUNY Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. State police said he had serious injuries and is in critical condition.
Ashley Fay, 22, of Syracuse, was a passenger in Roosa's vehicle. She was transported to Upstate University Hospital for treatment and has been released.
The crash delayed eastbound traffic for three hours.
State police said there is an ongoing investigation into the crash.
We're tracking a new bill that would stop automakers from ditching AM radio in new vehicles. It would require the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to mandate AM radio in new vehicles at no extra cost. Lawmakers in favor of the bill say taking out AM radio, or putting it behind a paywall, is a safety concern.
